This year’s topic is a keynote by UN Environment Ambassador Nadya Hutagalung on for her ongoing work with the Asian Elephants and her hunt for technology that can take conservation science to the next level.

Nadya Hutagalung (UN Environment Ambassador, Founder, Let Elephants Be Elephants, Media Personality)
Nadya Hutagalung is a sustainability icon who entered the international spotlight as a model aged 12. She then became a household name across Asia by presenting on MTV Asia, which launched in 1995. Recently, Nadya hosted Asia’s Next Top Model Asia-wide. Alongside her media achievements, Nadya is an environmental advocate. In 2006, she founded Green Kampong, the online resource about sustainable living. For her work in championing conservation Nadya is nominated “The International Green Awards: Most Responsible International Celebrity 2012” alongside other eco-conservationists like George Clooney, Penelope Cruz and Vivienne Westwood. In 2014, she launched the Let Elephants Be Elephants campaign with a documentary to reduce the demand for ivory in Asia, the film aired worldwide on National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild. In 2015, she addressed the UN General Assembly as part of world wildlife day alongside Chelsea Clinton and she was the Global Ambassador for WWF’s Earth Hour for seven years. Nadya was also recognised for inspiring Indonesian women with her far-reaching positive advocacy. As a UN Environment Ambassador in 2017, Nadya joined Erik Solheim, Head of UN Environment and Actor Adrian Grenier in launching the global campaign – #cleanseas – to eliminate major sources of marine litter by encouraging governments to pass plastic reduction policies. She also fronted the UN Wild For Life global campaign representing Orangutans. In 2018 Nadya has shifted her focus to the Sumatran Elephant and is the organiser of the Sumatran Elephant Round Table being held in September.
